"The Edge of the Shoal" shortlisted for the BBC National Short Story Competition
A man kayaks out to sea to scatter his father's ashes and is hit by lightning in this short story drawn from the novel Cove, published in The New Yorker in December 2016.
Selected from over 600 entries, this year’s shortlisted stories are:
